In Their Own Words: Perseverance

Our focus for the month of September was perseverance. We were privileged to hear from a number of professionals, educators, and supporters on the topic.

Read what our own Dr. Kathalene Harris had to say.

One of my favorite quotes is from President Franklin D. Roosevelt: “When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!"

Visualize this for a moment. Think about how many times you felt you were at the end of your rope. The consequences of your decisions at that moment are life changing.

If you give up, you fall into the abyss, and you don’t have anything to show for your effort. But, when you tied that knot and hung on for dear life, the reward could be beyond your expectations!

As we start our new journey toward 2017 from Middle School or College Freshman or Graduate School – the road will be bumpy. It may have some pot holes, but if you just “hang on” and keep your eyes on the prize, you will become a teacher, doctor, lawyer, fireman, nurse, entrepreneur, superintendent, artist, psychologist, accountant, engineer or anything you choose!

Your future is so bright; you’re really going to need sunglasses!

This post was written by Dr. Kathalene Harris. Dr. Harris serves on the Turner 12 Board of Directors. She is a Clinical manager of Respiratory Care at Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and Professor at both Texas Woman's University and University of Phoenix.
